Rotations Overview

Rotation Sites

COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS, INC.

The richness of the resident experience is uniquely cultivated through immersion in the Community Health Centers. Residents not only gain invaluable skills seeing a panel of their own patients at Oquirrh View Community Health Center but also delve into distinctive training opportunities in ambulatory pediatrics, women’s health, sports medicine, rural medicine, and procedural clinics.

LDS HOSPITAL

LDS Hospital serves as the primary training site for residents, offering training in Adult Inpatient Medicine, Obstetrics, Newborn Care, and Adult Emergency Medicine. Residents at LDS Hospital benefit from an unopposed experience in a diverse urban environment.

PRIMARY CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

Pediatric rotations occur at Primary Children’s Hospital (PCH), serving as the premier pediatric referral center for the Intermountain West. Residents benefit from unparalleled opportunities in the pediatric emergency department, inpatient units, and outpatient specialty clinics. Within an inpatient service unit comprised of family medicine residents, overseen by a senior pediatric team, residents gain hands-on experience with a diverse range of pediatric cases, contributing to a robust skill set in pediatric care.

Outpatient Learning

A unique aspect of our residency program is the focus on outpatient learning, emphasizing real-world experience in a clinical setting. Residents will gain invaluable knowledge through a variety of longitudinal outpatient experiences, primarily within Utah’s largest Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) specialty clinics.

We’ve integrated longitudinal experiences into several vital components of the residency curriculum. This innovative approach extends across essential areas such as women’s health, ambulatory pediatrics, musculoskeletal, behavioral medicine, geriatrics, dermatology, and health systems management.

Longitudinal experiences offer residents a unique opportunity for profound and continuous learning, allowing for in-depth exploration and skill refinement over an extended period. Unlike conventional block-based or rotation-based curriculums, which often prioritize short-term immersion in specific subjects, our longitudinal curriculum fosters a deeper understanding and engagement with each topic.

Through this approach, residents are not merely scratching the surface but delving deeply into the intricacies of each specialty, gaining comprehensive insights that are invaluable for their professional development. By embedding longitudinal experiences into our curriculum, we are shaping well-rounded and highly skilled physicians equipped to meet the complex challenges of modern healthcare.
